Born in 1937 in Romainville (Seine-Saint-Denis). A graduate of the Paris School of Creative Art and the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (Yencesse and Collamarini studios), and lodger status awarded of the Rome Grand Prix. Fine arts teacher at the Ecole polytechnique since 1993. Member of the board of the French Society of artists.
Michel Pigeon's subject of choice is the female form. He draws it, models it, sculpts in marble, stone or wood or shows it in stylised form in a whole variety of unusual and varied attitudes. He is also the creator of many sculptures for local authorities : primary schools, the Cochin hospital in Paris, Chateauroux departemental administration building (Indre), the Pierre Kérautret monument in Romainville (Seine-Saint-Denis), a monument to women deported during the Resistance at Gaillac (Tarn) and restoration work for Rheims cathedral (Marne).
Honours and awards :
Prix Rodin (1965), vermilion medal - city of Paris, medal of honour - Basse Normandie regional council, medal of honour - French Society of artists (1987), Grand Prix - Autumn salon (1989) and Violet salon (2008), Institut Laureate (1990), Malfray Andréi Graec prize (2003), sculpture award. Official sculptor for the Army.
